Starting your own business is hard, there is no getting around that. If you ask people who have started their own “bricks and mortar” businesses, they will tell you stories of years of working twelve hours a day, seven days a week before they ever saw a profit. The couple who owns the corner store doesn’t have a life of their own because they are in that store 24/7!

Starting an online business is hard, but not that hard. Yes, you have to put in some long hours, and yes, you will need to deny yourself some relaxing time with the family in order to make sure your business is flourishing. However, once you have gotten your business of the ground, the hours should be less and the work should be lighter. Starting an online business is something you really need to think hard about.

• If you are seriously thinking about starting an online business, then determine how many hours you are realistically willing to spend on it. An hour a day? Twenty hours a week? Be realistic before you choose what you will do.

• Talk to your family and friends about your plans. Make sure that they know that you will be less available than usual and ask them to not tempt you into detracting from your goal.

• Set yourself some goals for one month, six months, a year, and five years. Reward yourself if you achieve your goals, and be sure to re-evaluate your entire business plan if you do not achieve your goals.

Yes, starting a business is hard, but it is worth it. In fact, most financial experts will say that the only way to true wealth is not by working for someone else. By creating your own stream of income, you can set yourself on a path to future wealth and a better life.
